A day after a mild tremor, another major earthquake rocked the city, Cox’s Bazar and three districts of Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon triggering huge panic among the people.
The tremor rattled the entire region of Chittagong at 4.37pm on Wednesday, Met office sources told BSS. Though the magnitude of the earthquake was measured 6.8 in the Richter scale, the panic-stricken people were seen rushing out of buildings and to open spaces as the quake struck.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at Chauk of Myanmar, some 500 kilometres from Dhaka, at a depth of 84 kilometres.
The tremor shock spilled out on the streets in port city as well.
It caused people to run screaming for open ground, seeking divine intervention for their safety. Fire service officials told BSS that the city dwellers felt the earthquake that caused huge panic but they received no report of any damage or causality.
