Strong measures to prevent forest fire stressed

A day-long programme was held to prevent forest fire initiated by the Dhaka Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department. A discussion and rallies were held in Gazipur Sadar Upazila to prevent forest fires on Tuesday.
 Local residents of different areas of Gazipur Sadar Upazila along with Forest Department Officials and staff took part in the programmes for implementation of Gazipur Bhawal and National Park Range.
 The rally started from Bhabanipur bit office premises of Bhawal Range and went around Singratali Forest Office Road. Later, Assistant Forest Conservator Enamul Haque was present at the BIT office premises to discuss fire prevention with locals of various professions.
 At the time, among others, Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Rubia Islam, Bhawal Range Officer Masud Rana, Forester Shahan Shah Akand and others. During the discussion, local residents and beneficiaries recruited under social forestry pledged to remain united in forest fire prevention.
Bhawal Range Officer Masud Rana said that patrol activities have been intensified on the instructions of the Divisional Forest Officer to prevent forest fires. Forest workers are taking part in the firefighting operation immediately after receiving the news of the forest fire. He also said that action is being taken under the Forest Act to identify the forest arsonists.
 Meanwhile, on the same day at noon in Pingail area of Gazipur Sadar Upazila, Forest Department Officials, locals and people of different professions took part in separate discussions and rallies on forest fire prevention. Baruipara Bit Officer Abul Kalam Samsuddin conducted the discussion. Later, the rally went around different places of Pingail Road.
 It is to be noted that at the end of the last season of each year, from March to May in the English month, fires occur in different parts of the deciduous forest. Intentional, sometimes reckless fires cause extensive forest damage.
Wild animals are displaced. Forestry activities are hampered. So, it the problem will be taken in great consideration for bio-diversity and environmental wellbeing.
