Speakers said at a participatory discussion that ensuring more local government and gender sensitive mass-media has become the demand of time for strengthening the local government institutions, empowering its people and removing gender discrimination.
They viewed that there are many instances of attaining positive result of strengthening the local government institutions through objective reporting relating to the local government issues.
They were addressing the closing day’s sessions of a two-day long training workshop titled “Media, Local Government and Gender” held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Barcik and diakonia jointly organised the workshop in association with ‘Effective Participation for Transparent and Accountable Local Governance’ project with the main thrust of sensitising the professional journalists towards more local government related gender sensitive media reports.
Union Parishad Chairmen Akhteruzzaman, Khairul Islam and Nurul Islam, Barcik Coordinator Pavel Partha, diakonia project officer Israt Jahan, President of Adibashi Sammilita Nari Jote Kolpona Tirky and Office-secretary of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad Subhash Chandra Hembrom conducted the sessions as focal persons.
The speakers said that the issues of the women empowerment together with addressing women’s vulnerability are completely dependent on the substantial gender equality.
