Leaders of ‘Durniti Birodhi Andolan’ here have demanded for taking stringent measures to ensure supply of formalin-free foods in the local markets for saving the future generations and common people from the wrath of many deadly diseases.
They demanded stopping sale of fruits, vegetables and other foods mixed with formalin, carbide and other chemicals while handing over a memorandum on Wednesday afternoon to the Deputy Commissioner at his office in the city.
Led by convener of ‘Durniti Birodhi Andolan’ and valiant freedom fighter Shahadat Hossain, leaders of the organisation handed over the memorandum after forming a human chain and several streets rallies in the city.
Member-secretary of district unit of ‘Durniti Birodhi Andolan’ Shahinur Islam, its Joint Convener Kazi Mohammad Isa, members Madhab Sarker, Anwar Hossain and Nipun Roy, were present on the occasion, among others.
On the occasion, leaders of the organisation expressed concern over flooding of formalin- and carbide-mixed fruits, vegetables and other
foodstuffs in the local markets and demanded stopping sale of all sorts of poisonous foods immediately.
Narrating grievous consequences of consuming chemical-mixed foods, they mentioned that hundreds of children, pregnant women and common people are even embracing deaths or suffering from various chronic diseases after taking poisonous foods.
