Chittagong Prime Movers Owners Association yesterday fully withdrew its suspended strike.
The strike on transporting goods from Chittagong Seaport was lifted following an inter ministerial meeting on transportation of goods on roads and highways as per load guidelines at the ministry for road transport and bridges.Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting, said an official release.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Railways Minister M Mujibul Huq, Food Minister M Quamrul Islam and Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin attend the meeting.
After the meeting minister Obaidul Quader briefed newsmen on the outcome of the meeting.
He said there is no legal bar on transportation of up to 32 tons of goods by 14-wheel container carrying long vehicles or prime movers.
The prime movers can carry even up to 42 tons of goods by adding four more wheels, he added.The minister thanked the transport owners and workers for their continued cooperation for the government’s initiative to control overloading of vehicles to maintain longevity of roads.
