UNB, Brahmanbaria :
A work abstention programme enforced by Truck-Tank Lorry Worker’s Union in the district led to the suspension of loading and unloading of goods at Ashuganj port from Friday morning.
The union has enforced the work abstention in
protest against the grabbing of the land of its office at Ashuganj intersection allegedly by local Sramik League activists.
Union general secretary Abul Khair claimed that some miscreants, introducing themselves as Sramik League activists, hung a signboard on the land four-five days ago claiming its ownership.
Ashuganj Police Station officer-in-charge Abu Zafar said they were trying to resolve the dispute between the union and the Sramik League men. If the Sramik League activists do not remove the signboard, legal actions will be taken against them, added the OC.
The loading and unloading of various goods, including paddy, rice, rod, cement and fertilisers, at the port remained suspended till filing of this report at6pm.
