The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has taken a strict position against the possible smuggling of the cattle and harmful steroids and hormonal drugs crossing the border ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The Ministry has already taken various effective measures to tackle the smuggling, said a press release issued by the Ministry on July 14.
An inter-ministerial meeting was held on July 9 this year presided by Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim for ‘ensuring the supply and sale of healthy cattle at the sacrificial animal market’, also read the press release.
As per the decision of the meeting, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock sent letters to the Cabinet Division and Public Security Department on Monday (July 13) to take necessary steps in this regard.
The letter which was sent to the Cabinet Division requested the Cabinet Secretary to direct the concerned Deputy Commissioners to conduct mobile courts to stop illegal infiltration of cattle crossing the border districts, to stop the creating of artificial crisis of the cattle and the prevention of counterfeit money.
Another letter was that was sent to the Public Security Department for to provide necessary instructions to BGB and Bangladesh Police to take joint action to stop illegal entry of cattle in the border areas from outside of the country.
A separate letter sent to the same department to instruct the BGB and the police to guard the illegal entry of harmful steroids and drugs from beyond the border ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
In the letter, the Ministry also requested the department to instruct the law enforcement agencies to take necessary steps for ensuring the safety of buyers and sellers at the sacrificial animal market, for stopping harassment related to lease in buying and selling cattle outside the market and in online.
It also requested to instruct the law enforcers to take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted transportation of cattle by stopping extortion and stopping the transportation of the diseased cattle and to run the mobile courts.
