For the third day in a row, the strict lockdown is underway today across the country, including the capital Dhaka, to tackle the pandemic coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
In the first two days, people and vehicles moved in a limited range under strict lockdown, however on the third day on Friday, the lockdown is being observed as “somewhat relaxable”.
Although police are continuing their activities by setting up checkposts to implement the lockdown.
After visiting different areas of the capital on Friday morning, it was seen that the number of people and vehicles was higher than in the last two days.
Police are interrogating vehicles other than emergency services. However, the police’s strict efforts to control the movement of people was not that noticeable.
Besides, only those who are involved in emergency services are allowed to cross the checkpost and those who are not under the emergency services are being returned.
The locals have set up barricades with bamboo in different places in different lanes of the Dhaka metropolis. However, small vehicles including rickshaws can move. Local volunteers are allowing people to move around just to buy daily commodities.
It is to be mentioned that the government announced the first lockdown of this year from April 5 to April 11. Seeing the apathy of the people in that seven-day lockdown, the government declared a “strict lockdown” in the second phase from 6:00 am on April 14 to midnight on April 21. The third day of that strict lockdown is underway today (Friday).
