Strict implementation of anti-adulteration laws underscored

Speakers at a day-long workshop have stressed for strict implementation of the anti-adulteration laws to ensure exemplary punishments to those responsible for adulterating foodstuffs to save human lives recently.
Badarganj upazila administration organised the workshop on ‘Food
adulteration, public health, morality, implementation of anti-adulteration laws and creating social awareness’ at its auditorium under Upazila Governance Project (UzGP) on Tuesday.
Badarganj upazila chairman Fazle Rabbi Sweet attended and addressed the workshop as the chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khondker Istiauque Ahmed in the chair Badarganj upazila vice-chairmen Saidul Islam and Rubina Akhter, General Secretary of upazila Awami League Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury Tutul, District Facilitator of UzGP Jahangir Alam, Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Aiyub Ali, addressed as special guests.
Badarganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdur Rashid, BRAC official Enamul Haque, journalists Hemanata Sarker, Ruhul Amin Sarker and Saidul Haque Sathi, businessmen Biplob Kundu and Rostam Ali also spoke.
Upazila level government officials, employees, representatives of different business, socio- cultural, political and professional organisations, NGOs, women and human rights activists, adolescents, civil society members, teachers, students and elite participated.
The speakers expressed concerns on availability of the adulterated and chemical poison-mixed baby foods, vegetables, fish, meat, fruits, hotel and packed foods, adulterated and date expired lifesaving medicines and other foodstuffs in local markets.
They said the extent of deadly hepatitis, kidney, heart and liver diseases, paralysis, cancer, pancreas ailments and other diseases have been increasing alarmingly creating threat to the public health even after many years of consuming adulterated foods.
