Strict enforcement of laws to ensure safe food stressed

Strict enforcement of the Safe Food Act 2013, Consumers’ Right Protection Act 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010 has become imperative to ensure supply of pure and safe foods to common people.
The observations came at a participatory discussion on Safe Food Act 2013, Consumers’ Right Protection Act 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act 2010 held at hall room of Saddyapuskorini union parisahd in Sadar upazila in the district.
Rangpur Unit of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) with assistance of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) and Department of National Consumer Rights Protection organised the discussion.
Local public representatives and community leaders, teachers, religious leaders, civil society members, professionals and human rights activists participated in the discussion.
Presided over by Chairman of Saddyapuskorini union Md Sohel Rana, Sadar Upazila Food Inspector Mamunar Rashid attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Poultry Development Officer of the Department of Livestock Agriculturist Md Fazlul Karim, Vice-president of district unit of CAB Safura Khatun and its Filed Coordinator Iqbal Hossain addressed the discussion.
Food Inspector Mamunar Rashid discussed the Safe Food Act 2013 while Agriculturist Md Fazlul Karim discussed the Fish Feed and Animal Feed Act, 2010 and Safura Begum discussed the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act 2009 on the occasion.
They said common consumers have already started getting benefits from enforcements of these Acts and are becoming more aware of their rights of getting pure food products in local markets.
Iqbal Hossain put emphasis on enhancing public awareness and strict enforcement of these important laws to protect rights of the consumers for saving public health from food poisoning, other contamination and health hazards.
In his concluding speech, Union Chairman Sohel Rana stressed on making the business community members, traders and common consumers aware of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and poisonous foods.
He urged all concerned for adopting effective and stringent measures against supply and marketing of adulterated and poisonous foods to protect public health on way to build a healthier nation and attain sustainable development goals.

Voters Day observed
Another report adds: The National Voters’ Day 1st March 2019 was observed yesterday + for the first time as elsewhere in the country with the theme of ‘Will be Voter, Will Vote’ to create awareness among voters about their voting rights.
The Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commission with assistance of the Divisional Commissioner’s Office chalked programmes like bringing out of a rally followed by discussion marking the day.
The divisional and district level government officials, students, youths, representatives of NGOs, socio-cultural, professional and human rights organisations, civil society members participated in the rally that paraded the main city streets.
Later, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari attended the post-rally discussion held at his conference room as the chief guest with Rangpur Regional Election Officer GM Sahatab Uddin in the chair.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan, Acting District Election Officer Kamrul Islam, addressed as special guests.
The speakers thanked the present government to launch observance of the day aiming at inspiring youths to become voters and exercise their voting rights to infuse democratic culture in them for nurturing democracy and strengthening democratic rights.
The chief guest urged the officials concerned for ensuring enlistment of every new voter and creating mass public awareness so that every voter would come to the polling centres for casting their votes to strengthening democracy in the country.
