The World Consumers’ Rights Day-2016 was observed here Tuesday with a renewed pledge for creating mass awareness to launch a vigorous campaign to protect the interests of the people.
The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and District Administration jointly organised a seminar at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the day with the theme of ‘Antibiotics off the menu.’
Divisional Commissioner Jamal Uddin Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md Joynal Abedin in the chair.
DIG of Sylhet Range Mizanur Rahman, SMP Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan, SCCI President Salauddin Ali Ahmed addressed among others.
Officials of different government and non-government departments and organisations, leaders of different businesspersons’ organisations, civil society members, journalists and local elite attended the seminar.
The speakers called for raising adequate public awareness, strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Law to protect the consumers’ rights through freeing the human body from any kind of food poisoning and other contamination.
They put importance on making the business community people aware about severe consequences of supply and sale of adulterated and poisonous foods and ensuring state control for making the market free from deception to ensure healthy atmosphere.

A discussion meeting on Antibiotics Off the Menu was held at local collectorate confrence hall on Tuesday noon.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswash was attented as chief guest while ADC (General) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil in the chair.
Additional Police Super (Crime) Mustakin Hossain, Deputy Director of Agriculture Shafiqul Islam and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman were attended as special guest.
It was addressed among others by CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Sadar UNO Mohammad Abu Naser Beg, CAB Vice-president Bilkis Begum, Headmistress (Retd.) The views were expressed at a seminar cum discussion organised by Panchagarh district administration at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the World Consumers Rights Day-2016 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Panchagarh district extended cooperation in arranging the seminar cum discussion in observance of the day with the theme of ‘Antibiotics off the menu.’
Deputy Commissioner of the sub-Himalayan district Amal Krishna Mandal attended and addressed the seminar cum discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahmudul Alam in the chair.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Muntejari Deena, Sadar upazila Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat, Mayor of Panchagarh pourashava Tauhidul Islam, District Food Controller Abdul Kader, District Health Education Officer Zia Uddin, addressed among others.
Officials of different government and non-government departments and organisations, public representatives, heads of different educational institutions, business community leaders, civil society members, journalists and local elite were present.
The speakers called for creating mass public awareness along with strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Law to protect the consumers’rights for saving public health from food poisoning, other contamination and hazards.
The chief guest laid emphasis on making the common citizens as well as business community people for adopting effective measures to ensure healthy atmosphere in the local markets and stop supply of adulterated and poisonous foods.
BSS from Manikganj adds: The Consumers Rights Protection Day was observed in Manikganj on Tuesday in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner, Manikganj under the joint auspices of the District Administration and Consumers Rights Protection Department.
The meeting was presided by Gazi Asaduzzaman Kabir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) of Manikganj.
Md. Jahangir Hossain, Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad, Manikganj was present in the function as the chief guest. Chairman of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Manikganj Golum Sarwar Sanu spoke on the occasion.
A total of 60 persons including local journalists, teachers, public representatives and government officials attended the function.
