Strengthening perinatal health care services underscored

Health experts stressed on strengthening perinatal health and wash services in health care facilities to further reduce the infant and maternal mortality rates for building a healthier nation.
They expressed the views at the stakeholders’ workshop on ‘Strengthening perinatal health and wash services in health care facilities’ held recently at conference room of the Civil Surgeon in Kurigram district town. The Civil Surgeon’s Office of Kurigram organised the workshop with assistance of Tere Des Hommes Foundation for the stakeholders concerned to further strengthening of the perinatal health and wash services in all health care facilitates of the district.
The district and upazila levels health and family planning officials, health care service providers, representatives of different NGOs and other organisations and civil society members of Kurigram district participated. Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Amal Chandra Saha attended the workshop as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin in the chair.
Civil Surgeon of Kurigram Dr SM Aminul Islam and Deputy Director of the Department of Family Planning for Kurigram Dr Md Nazrul Islam addressed as special guests.
The Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers and Medical Officers from all nine upazilas of Kurigram district addressed the event narrating situation of perinatal health and wash services in their respective health care facilities.
The Civil Surgeon discussed importance of enhancing perinatal health and wash services in all government and private sector health care facilities to further reduce the infant and maternal mortality rates and improve health indexes.
The Deputy Commissioner urged health officials, experts and health service providers to ensure proper services to the pregnant mothers for safe deliveries and taking care of the newborn babies.
