Speakers at a function underscored the need for strengthening the nutritional activities to the people, particularly the poor, to build a healthy nation.

They came up with the comments yesterday while addressing a coordination meeting on direct nutrition interventions (DNIs) at the conference room of Civil Surgeon (CS) in Gaibandha.
With the technical support of UNICEF, CS office organized the function with the financial support of US aid and UK aid with CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in the chair while junior health education officer Abdul Hannan acted as the moderator.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Shaghata upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Dr. AHM Abu Hanif, district nutrition support officer of UNICEF M. Kamruzzaman, project manager of Care M. Khairuzzaman and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Earlier, deputy director of department of family planning Dewan Morshed Kamal presented the objectives of the new strategy of nutrition coordination meeting with health and family planning system through multimedia projector.
CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in his concluding speeches said one community centre of each union would be turned into a model one based on its overall activities for the people.
The CS also urged the staff of the community clinic, family welfare centre, maternity and child welfare centre, sub centre, integrated management of childhood illness and nutrition, and severe acute malnutrition centre to be more serious for providing nutrition services properly to attain the cherished goal of the government.
