Union Parishad Govrnence Project, a project of Local Government Ministry and supported by UNDP organised a day- long workshop on Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs) at Local Art Council Hall in the town on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswa attended as Chief Guest while Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary Local Government Md. Zahirul Islam in the chair. It was addressed among others by Local Government Director Md. Oliullah as special guest, ADC (Gen) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, UNDP Senior Programme Officer Saidur Rahman Mollah, District Fecelator, UPGP Md. Nazmul Islam, Monir Hossain Mujumder of UNDP, Sadar Upazila Chairman Advocate Shariful Islam, Katiadi Upazila Chairman Abdul Wahab Ainuddin, Karimganj UNO Asma Begum, Tarail UNO Sultana Akter, POPI Manager Saiful Quddes, Union Chairman Sharif Kamal. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas said that the field level administration could play the most vital role to implement the LGSP fro achieving the set SDGs through proper monitoring and enhancing capacity of the local government bodies. Strengthening of the local Government bodies would ensure transparency in their activities and accelerate advancement in rural areas to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).Local Government Director Md. Oliullah stressed on enhancing efficiency and capacity of the Local Government Institution and elected public representatives in preparing policies, strategies and work plan to ensure better management good governance and accountability. District Level Officers, upazila chairmen , UNOs, CAB President, union chairmen, journalists and NGO representatives attended workshop.
