Briefing reporters about the parley, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said, “We’ve clearly stated our position about peace, democracy and human rights. It was our main point that no system without protecting democracy and human rights can be acceptable to people in this era of the world.”
He said, they also elaborately discussed the country’s latest political and human rights situations, recent killings of some foreigners, the country’s law and order, the government’s repressive acts, containing militancy and terrorism, trade relations between the two countries and Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
“We expressed our views on the issues and so did the US representatives. The meeting was held in a congenial atmosphere,” the BNP leader said.
Dr Moyeen said, they gave the US representatives a clear message that BNP is a liberal democratic party which believes in change in power only through democratic process. He said they also told the US leaders that they want the country to march forward by strengthening the democratic process and ensuring people’s basic rights and the rights of expression.
