Dhaka WASA has prepared a storm water drainage master plan for Dhaka city to make the city more livable. After approval from the concerned authority of the government Dhaka WASA will proceed to implement the plan. As it requires huge amount of money, Dhaka WASA expects the support assistance from the Development prartners in implementing the master plan. The Dhaka WASA management expressed this opinion at a dissemination program on Thursday held at a city hotel with Monzur Hossain, Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division ot the Ministry of the LGRD & C as the chief guest. Engr. Taqsem A Khan, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA chaired the program while Mr. Josses Mugabi, Task Team Leader of the project, among others was present.
The master plan has been prepared by Dhaka WASA in co-operation with Jurutera Perunding Zaaba Sdm. Bhd. (JPZ) of Malaysia, Farhat Consulting Engineers & Architects Ltd. (FCEA) and SARM Associates Limited (SARM) JV under Dhaka Water Supply and Sanitation Project (DWSSP), financed by the World Bank.
Monzur Hossain, Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division ot the Ministry of the LGRD & C in his speech said that Dhaka WASA has been working very hard in recent years to fulfil the requirements of the city dwellers in water supply and sanitation sector. He praised the programs taken by Dhaka WASA to reduce the water logging of the city in the rainy season. The secretary hoped that while implemented the master plan Dhaka city will be more livable.
Managing Director of Dhaka WASA Engr. Taqsem A Khan informed that Dhaka WASA is moving forward to develop an environment-friendly, pro-people and sustainable water management system. Dhaka WASA will be able to shift its paradigm by shifting its production from 28 per cent to 70 per cent from the surface water sources by 2019, he hoped. Engr. Khan also thanked the Development partners for their necessary cooperation. The Managing Director of Dhaka WASA urged the development partners to come forward with necessary support to implement the drainage master plan.
Md. Serajuddin, Deputy Managing Director (RP&D), Dhaka WASA and Mr. Josses Mugabi, Task Team Leader of the project also spoke on the occasion. High Government Officials, Experts and the representatives of the Development partners were also present at the program.
