At least eight people were injured and 30 houses damaged as a Nor’wester swept over Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The storm that started at 12:30pm lashed the area for over 45 minutes. A child was killed in a landslide in Kamolganj upazila of Moulvibazar district on Monday, while at least 16 people were injured and over 80 houses damaged as nor’westers lashed Kulaura and Sreemangal upazilas of Moulvibazar district, and Fenchuganj and Sadar upazilas of Sylhet district yesterday and the day before.
In Moulvibazar, violent storms swept over the upazilas and three unions, injuring at least eight people and damaging over 50 houses Monday afternoon and yesterday.
The first storm on Monday, accompanied with hail, uprooted scores of trees and electricity poles, and damaged standing boro paddy on vast tracts of land.
Fifty houses in 10 villages were razed to the ground, locals said.
All the five injured in Rantgaon, Kabiraji and Ekadattapur villages were admitted to local health complexes.
Another storm hit the same areas next morning, causing further damage to crops and trees, and a child was killed in a landslide in Kamolganj upazila, Kamrul Hasan, Deputy Commissioner of Moulvibazar said.
