Staff Reporter :Chairman of Human Rights Commission Bangladesh Dr Mizanur Rahman has urged the 20-party alliance to stop ongoing violence in the name of politics. “None had succeeded in declaring war against the common people. I urge the politicians to stop this violence. Please do not ruin our future,” said NHRC Chief to the newsmen after visiting the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH] on Thursday.During the visit, he inquired of the condition of arson victims in the BNP-led alliance’s countrywide indefinite transport blockade from January 5.I urge the politicians to restrain their supporters from unleashing violence. Politics must be non-violence,” he said. Expressing surprise, he also said, “Many have gone to the hospital to visit Reaz Rahman and issued statements condemning the attack. But how many people have come to see the condition of common people at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital?” He, however, condemned the attack on BNP chief’s advisor Reaz Rahman.”It is the government who should ensure freedom of expression and opinions and end obstructions to hold peaceful rallies and meetings. And it is the state’s responsibility to ensure security for all its citizens. But it is hard to do the work,” he said.He said, “I also urge all not to hamper study of the students. The students should be allowed to go to their educational institutions without any fear.” At least 22 people have been admitted to this hospital with burns sustained during the blockade, said DMCH authorities.Of them, at least 10 people have died from burns in the last 11 days across the country.
