Stop use of hydraulic horns within 48 hrs: HC

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to stop use of hydraulic horns in city transports within 48 hours.
The High Court bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order yesterday. Lawyer Manzil Murshid placed arguments supporting his writ petition, that he filed on Tuesday.
The court also asked the authorities to confiscate the instruments used for pneumatic horns in the next seven days.
Manzil Murshid told the court, according to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1983, any vehicle that generates more than 85 decibel sound after its engine is put on, will not be given clearance certificate. While it is totally forbidden to install hydraulic horn in the transports. He said, use of pneumatic horns in vehicles in Dhaka city should be stopped to prevent sound pollution.
But, maximum number of bus and trucks have been using hydraulic horns threatening public health, he added.
