Communications Minister Obaidul Quader directed Dhaka WASA to stop digging roads to ease traffic jam in the city.
He further directed the authorities concerned to suspend construction of Maghbazar flyover for 10 days before and 10 days after the Eid-ul-Fitr to reduce public sufferings.
The minister issued the directives on Tuesday while visiting the site of Maghbazar-Malibagh flyover at Maghbazar signal area in the morning.
The minister hoped that suspension of road rigging for seven days before and seven days after the Eid would facilitate movement of home-going passengers during the Eid without hampering the activities of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
Obaidul Quader asked the authorities to remove garbage containers staying on roads here and there.
He became remorseful witnessing sufferings of the people living around the under-construction Maghbazar flyover. He said the flyover construction should be carried out keeping facilities for vehicular movement on both the sides. The minister said an inter-ministerial meeting will be held on July 11 to take decisions to ensure smooth transportation of passengers during the Eid.
He said the roads are now better than in the past.
Leaves of all engineers under the communications ministry have been cancel ahead of the Eid, he added.
