The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered to stop producing and selling of medicine of 28 companies within 72 hours as they fail to produce standard antibiotic, which information was found in a report of a experts’ committee.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order and issued a rule after hearing a writ petition.
The 28 companies are- Amico Pharmaceuticals, Aztec Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Bengal Techno Pharma Ltd, Benham Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Central Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Decent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Dr Teams Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Globex Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Greenland Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Inova Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Max Drugs Ltd, Medimet Laboratories Ltd, Modern Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mystic Pharmaceuticals Ltd, National Laboratories Ltd, Organic Health Care Ltd, Wester Pharma Ltd, Premier Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Prime Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Seema Pharmaceuticals Ltd, White Horse Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Momtaz Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Unique Pharmaceuticals Ltd, United Chemical and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, FNF Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Unit-1, Unit-2 and Unit-3 of Techno Drugs Ltd.
In the rule, the court wanted know as to why the inaction of the respondents to stop producing and selling of antibiotic, anti-cancer and hormonal medicine of the 28 companies should not be declared illegal and as to why the respondents should not be directed to stop producing and selling medicines of the 28 companies.
Health Secretary, Industry Secretary and Director General of the Department of Health have to comply this rule.
Five respondents including these three have to submit a progress report in the court within two weeks. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Director General of RAB are directed to cooperate in this regard.
Three lawyers of the Supreme Court on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a rights organization, filed the writ petition on Sunday challenging the inaction of implementing the recommendations to stop production of these companies by the experts’ committee.
