Stop extortion on roads, highways: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary has ordered a zero-tolerance against extortion on Roads and Highways across the country ahead of the Eid journey.
“Departmental action will be taken if any policeman is found involved in extortion,” the IGP said .
Calling his force to ensure hassle-free Eid journey for holidaymakers, the IGP ordered to take step so that no one can carry passengers on the roof.
Speaking through video conference from Police Headquarters on Sunday, he instructed to curb vehicles on highways without driving license and fitness certificates.
He also asked the police officials to remain alert in preventing water transports from carrying excessive passengers to avoid any untoward incident.
“We won’t let any bus to move if any anomaly is found in this regard,” the IGP warned. He also ordered the police officials not to halt any vehicle on Roads and Highways without any specific allegation and reason.
He said, CCTV camera will be installed at different strategic points on the highways to prevent extortion and restore discipline on the roads.
The police officials have been asked to bring all vehicles under the coverage of CCTV camera seven days before and after of the Eid-ul-Fitr to make the efforts a success, he added.
He also issued an instruction to enhance overall security across the country and increase vigilance against militancy and terrorism.
