Stop elephant killing: HC

The High Court on Monday directed the concerned bodies of the government to take immediate steps for stopping the killing of elephants.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary, Chief Conservator of Forests, Director of the Wildlife Crime Control Unit and other respondents have been asked to comply with the order and submit a progress report to the court.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order and a ruling after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
Adnan Azad, Farzana Yesmin and Khan Fatima Hasan, three residents of Moahmmadpur area of the capital who also deal with wildlife, filed the writ petition on Sunday.
It was filed seeking HC directives upon the respondents to preserve 12 corridors identified by the forest department for elephant movement in the Greater Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar areas to ensure uninterupted movement of elephants.
Lawyer Khan Khalid Adnan appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petitioners, while Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar represented the state.
