The High Court on Sunday issued an order asking all concerned to stop construction of a multi-storied building beside Kuthibari, an establishment that contains the memories of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Sahajadpur in Sirajganj district.
A vacation bench with Justice Naima Haider and Justice M Akram Hossain Chowdhury by an interim order also asked all concerned to maintain status quo in undertaking any type of construction near the Kuthibari to keep intact the beauty of the historic building.
Poet Rabindranath Tagore had constructed the Kutibari during the British colonial period within his jamindari estate and he stayed several times in the Kutibari while visiting his jamindari estate.
The order came responding to a writ petition filed for Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) alleging that an individual is constructing a multi-storied building within 10 feet of the Kuthibari ignoring the objection of the local administration.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why an order should not be issued to evict all illegal structures, constructed near the Kuthibari, which were hampering the architectural beauty and archeological value of the Kutibari, a historical establishment, related to the memory of the Biswakabi.
Director General (DG) of Archeology Department and local administration of Sirajganj were made respondents in the writ petition. The rule was made returnable in four weeks.
Advocate Monzil Morshed moved the petition.
