Maisha, a minor girl, aged 11 months, who was stolen from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, was rescued after five days of missing. Later, at 8 p m on Monday , Sylhet Metropolitan Police (S.M.P) Kotwali Model Thana Police rescued the baby from the house of Lufai Miah from Hatimbagh (Shibgonj) Sylhet City.
Police arrested three persons in this connection. The arrestees are Sheuli Begum (25) w/o Shamim Miah under Laladighirpar, Sylhet City, her brother Badsha Miah (30) s/o Ali Hussain of Shibgonj, Hatimbagh Sylhet City and Farjana Akther Sakhi (25) w/o aforesaid Badsha Miah. Kotwali Model Thana (Police Station) Officer-in-Charge Md. Shelim Miah confirmed the rescue of the baby girl.
On Thursday at 12.00 noon, the baby’s mother Sumi Begum went to the first floor of the outdoor of the hospital to visit the doctor. At that time her baby daughter Maisha was with her. When Sumi Begum was entering into the doctor’s chamber, Maisha was weeping. On good faith Sumi Begum gave her baby under the care of an unknown lady. After coming out of the chamber, she found neither her daughter nor the unknown lady. Sumi Begum w/o Ali Hussain, Village Noikhai, Moglabazar thana lodged a case with Kotwali Model Thana Police in this connection. Investigation Officer and Sub Inspector Babul Miah of Kowtali Model Thana said, ‘On receiving secret information the baby was rescued Sheuli Begum gave the baby to her brother Badsha Miah and his wife Sakhi, who have no issue.
On the other hand, the people of Hatimbagh became astonished when they saw a child of about 11 months was in the lap of Sakhi. The couple failed to give satisfactory reply to the query of the locals about the baby for which suspicion arose which was over by Police rescue operation.
On Monday at 11.30 p.m. Ali Hussain father of the rescued baby said ‘On receiving the information, he went to the thana. He is grateful to all who helped him to recover his childÓ. Police today (Tuesday) handed over the baby to its parents and made three arrested persons appear before the Magistrate court.
