Cricket Australia’s drive to improve on-field behaviour continues with a $7,500 fine on Marcus Stoinis for “personal abuse” of a player. The Melbourne Stars opener was found guilty of a level two breach in the match against the Melbourne Renegades, and has accepted the charge without challenge.
“I got caught in the moment and took it too far,” Stoinis said. “I realised immediately I was in the wrong and I apologise to Kane and to the umpires. “I did the wrong thing and accept responsibility for my actions. The standards are there for a reason and I accept the penalty.”
Fast bowler James Pattinson was also handed a one-Test suspension earlier in the season for a similar slur, reportedly homophobic in nature. It was Pattinson’s third code of conduct breach in 12 months as compared to the first for Stoinis.
“The behaviour in this matter falls short of the standards we expect and we have acted accordingly,” Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security, said. “There is no place for it in the game.”
