Stocks witnessed upward trend on Tuesday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges rose with higher activities of some large-cap securities.
The rising major sectors were textile and food and allied. A total of 111 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher activities.
The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 11.02 points up at 5,380.93. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.11 points up at 1,241.29 and with 4.34 points up at 1,892.67 respectively. The volume of shares rose to 12.43 crore from Monday’s 11.73 crore shares. But the daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 488.40 crore from Taka 550.52 crore of the previous session.
At the DSE, price of 153 securities out of the day’s 336 traded issues closed higher against 132 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were PDL, DSSL, Fine Foods, VFSTDL and Metro Spinning. The major losing issues were Republic, Dhaka Insurance, Islami Insurance, Provati Insurance and Pioneer Insurance.
UPGDCL topped the turnover leaders followed by Ifad Autos, Nurani, KPCL and DSSL. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 39.99 points up at 16,585.89.
