Stocks witness downward trend despite higher transactions

Stock markets performed mixed on Wednesday with major indices finishing with downward trend despite increase in the daily transactions on lower activities of large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors included engineering, insurance and food and allied. A total of 143 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The border DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 20.19 points down at 5756.92. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 6.89 points down at 1317.15 and with 4.49 points down at 2139.17.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 1,114.80 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 983.16 crore and the daily trade rose to 30.17 crore shares from 24.37 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 328 securities, prices of 118 securities closed higher against 176 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were HAKKANIPUL, Renwick Ja, Gemini Sea, Northern and LIBRAINFU. The major losing issues were National Tubes, NFML, Peoples Insurance, Emerald Oil and UCB.
City Bank topped the turnover list followed by Beximco, Brac Bank, IDLC and Beximco Pharma.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 60.57 points down at 17,851.42.
At CSE, 251 issues were traded. Of those, 88 closed higher and 143 closed lower when 2.01 crore shares worth Taka 64.75 crore changed hands.
