Stocks witness downtrend despite higher transactions

Stocks on Sunday witnessed downtrend as the major price indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed lower despite higher transactions.
The daily trade value increased to Taka 5211.726 million from Thursday’s Taka 4513.372 million and the volume rose to 16.79 crore shares from 14.07 crore shares of the previous session.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 181.54 points down at 5,088.99. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 82.17 points down at 1,901.13 and with 36.37 points down at 1,166.17.
At DSE, out of the day’s 326 securities, prices of 8 securities closed higher against 251 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were DGIC, Provati Insurance, Envoy Textile, RAK Ceramic and Matin Spinning. The major losing issues were Paramount, Dominage, Golden Son, IFIC and SS Steel.
Beximco topped the turnover list followed by Robi, Beximco Pharma, Asia Pacific Insurance and Lanka Bangla Finance.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with a downward trend with its major CASPI 542.07 points down at 14,714.35.
At CSE, 216 issues were traded. Of those, 13 closed higher and 184 closed lower when 1.30 crore shares worth Taka 75.38 crore changed hands.
