Stocks witness down as major sectors dip

Stock markets continued to witness a downward trend on Wednesday as major indices on the two bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)- were in red zone due to lower activities of large-cap securities.
The major losing sectors were bank, insurance and textile. A total of 187 major securities moved down due to lower activities. The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the day with 30.80 points down at 5,361.09. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES closed the day with 2.37 points down at 1,988.42 and with 11.45 points down at 1,251.23.
The trade volume at the DSE declined to Taka 10.71 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 10.97 crore. But, the trade value increased to Taka 488.61 crore from 438.41 crore shares of the previous session.
At the DSE, the prices of 60 securities out of the day’s 329 closed higher against 230 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were INTRACO, Legacy Foot, BRAC Bank, Fine Foods and MARICO. The major losing issues were Jamuna Bank, Paramount Insurance, SIBL, DSSL and Exim Bank.
BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by INTRACO, BSRM Limited and Queen South.
The CSE closed the day of the week with downward with its major CASPI 29.04 points down at 16,610.87.
