Stocks start New Year with positive nod

Stock markets opened on Sunday with positive nod as many of the major indices of the both Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities despite lower transactions.
The major rising sectors were textile, insurance and IT sector.
A total of 142 securities of the large-cap group moved up due on higher activities. The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 9.89 points up at 6,254.41. The Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 0.75 points up at 1,391.42. But the blue-chip DS30 closed the session with 1.67 point down at 2,281.55.
The daily volume of shares decreased to 11.57 crore from Thursday’s 14.99 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 374.31 crore from Taka 628.05 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 333 traded issues, price of 185 securities closed higher against 110 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were DSSL, SEMLIBBLSF, Central Insurance, Beximco and Intech while the major losing issues were Tunghai Industry, Asian Insurance, Northern Jute, Beach Hatchery and AIL. Lafarge Surma Cement topped the turnover leaders followed by PTL, Beximco, Islami Bank and NBL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 90.01 points up at 19,358.05.
At CSE, 218 issues were traded. Of those, 145 closed higher and 52 closed lower when 1.31 crore shares worth Taka 34.93 crore changed hands.
