Stock index and turnover both rose on Wednesday thanks to the increased participation of the investors.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose 76 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 6,547.
Meanwhile, DS30, blue-chip companies’ index, gained 2 per cent and DSES, Shariah based companies’ index, up 1.64 percent respectively.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, skyrocketed 67 per cent to Tk 2,201 crore, which was Tk 1,315 crore on the previous day.
However, the losers were strong as 155 fell out of the total 378 traded issues, 131 advanced and 92 remained unchanged.
Orion Pharmaceuticals surged 9.95 per cent, ACI Formulations rose 9.86 per cent, and Advent Pharmaceuticals advanced 8.77 per cent.
Other major gainers included Orion Infusion and Beacon Pharmaceuticals.
EBL NRB Mutual Fund declined the most, eroding 9.59 per cent. IFIC First Mutual Fund, Eastern Housing, First Bangladesh Fixed Income Fund, and Popular Life First Mutual Fund were among the major losers.
Orion Pharmaceuticals was the most-traded stock on the day, with its scrips worth Tk 230 crore changing hands.
Beximco Ltd, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel and JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing also witnessed significant turnover.
The CASPI, the all-share price index of the bourse in Chattogram, up 207 points, or 1.09 per cent, to close at 19,196.
The gainers outnumbered the losers, as 113 stocks advanced, 112 declined and 63 remained unchanged.
