Stocks return to downward trend again

Stocks witnessed a bearish session today as all indices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) returned to red breaking a four-day gaining streak.
Turnover, a key indicator of the market, declined to Taka 686.09 crore from the Sunday’s Taka 711.54 crore, on the DSE. The bourse traded a total of 16.35 crore shares on the day.
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 88.21 points to settle at 5433.79. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 181 points in the previous four straight sessions.
Two other indices followed the same trend as DS30 index, comprising blue chips, shed 33.37 points to close at 1977.04 and DSE Shariah index lost 15.39 points to settle at 1263.49.
Out of 340 traded issues, 61 closed higher, 241 closed lower and 38 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Five top gainers on DSE were RSRM Steel, BD Autocars, Queen South Textile, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning Mills and Libra Infusion. Standard Insurance, CNA Tex, Prime Bank, Dulamia Cotton and International Leasing were the top five losers. In the port city, CSE also closed downward with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) lost 213.46 points to finish at 16769.30.
The losers beat the gainers as 58 issues closed higher, 168 lower and 24 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
CSE traded 2.07 crore shares and mutual fund units worth more than Taka 84.24 crore in turnover.
