After witnessing a downward trend in the last session of the week, stocks on Monday rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 88.49 points or 1.74 per cent to settle at 5,177.48. Two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 43.53 points to finish at 1,944.65 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 16.56 points to close at 1,182.72.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 2366.074 million, which was Taka 5211.726 million at the previous session of the week.
Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 322 issues traded, 232 ended higher, 14 closed lower and 76 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Robi, Beximco Pharma, LHBL and Asia Pacific Insurance.
Apolo Ispat was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.80 per cent while Shahjalal Bank was the worst loser, losing 10.91 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-gaining 250.25 points to close at 14,964.60 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 150.47 points to close at 9,028.84.
Of the issues traded, 122 advanced, 27 declined and 36 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 51.71 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 16.02 crore.
