Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last four consecutive sessions, stocks rebounded today on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.
But the turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, and trade volume witnessed a fall on the day in the DSE.
The broader DSEX of DSE closed the day with 24.67 points up at 5,802.03. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 1.99 points up at 2,166.69 and with 2.62 points up at 1,342.53 respectively.
At the DSE, out of the day’s 335 securities, prices of 156 securities closed higher against 138 losing issues while 45 remained unchanged.
Turnover came down to Tk 485.07 crore from Tuesday’s Tk 495.35 crore on the DSE. The daily trade volume also dropped to 12.43 crore shares from Tuesday’s 12.56 crore shares.
The top five gainers were – Navana CNG, Queen South, UCB, Mercantile Bank and RD Food while the top five losers were Tallu Spinning, Rahima Food, Imam Button, Renwick JA and Usmania Glass.
In the port city, CSE also closed higher with its major CASPI 72.55 points up at 17894.63. A total of 227 issues were traded at the CSE. Of those, 109 closed higher and 89 closed lower while 29 remained unchanged.
