Stocks plunge on price fall in large-cap securities

Stock markets plunged on Sunday mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities. All the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed in red.
The falling major sectors were bank, insurance and textile. A total of 175 large-cap securities moved down due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of DSE finished the session 40.95 points down at 5372.86. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it with 16.89 points down at 1994.47 and with 9.18 points down at 1251.39 respectively.
Out of 325 traded issues, 211 incurred loss when only 75 closed with some gains. Most of the losing issues were from large-cap securities.
The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 363.42 crore from Thursday’s Taka 523.92 crore on selling of large-cap securities and the daily trade also fell to 12.71 crore shares from 16.24 crore shares of the previous session.
The major gaining issues were DBH 1st Mutual Fund, Paramount, Tosrifa Industries, EBL NRB Mutual Fund and ETL. The major losing companies were Premier Bank, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Federal Insurance, Modern Dyeing and Peninsula.
ETL topped the turnover leaders followed by UPGDCL, Ifad Autos, Lanka Bangla Finance and PTL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 122.51 points down at 16,634.08.
