Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

Stocks opened week down as major sectors closing the session of the week with falling trend at both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock exchanges on Sunday.
The falling major sectors included financial institutions and banks. A total of 168 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session with 36.14 points down at 5,460.07. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it with 6.01 points down at 2017.95 and with 5.16 points down at 1268.22 respectively.
Out of the traded 326 issues, 205 suffered losses across the board while the trade value fell to Taka 550.11 crore from Thursday’s Taka 687.05 crore and the volume to 15.76 crore shares from Thursday’s 19.22 crore shares.
The major gaining issues were Northern jute, Ambee Pharma, Miracle Industry, Asian Insurance and Renwick JA. The major losing companies were Fareast Finance, Exim Bank, First Finance, Rupali Bank and BD Finance.
Doreen Power topped the turnover leaders followed by RSRM Steel, ACI, SPCL, Lanka Bangla Finance and BD Finance.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished Sunday’s session in red, with major CASPI index closing 113.92 points down at 16,906.85. Out of the traded 227 issues, 50 advanced, 158 incurred losses and 19 remained static when 0.98 crore shares worth Taka 29.07 crore changed hands.
