Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

Stocks opened the week down as the major sectors closed the session with falling trends at both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock exchanges on Sunday.
The falling major sectors included bank and financial institutions. A total of 224 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session with 83.42 points down at 5,438.25. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it with 25.92 points down at 2024.52 and with 9.60 points down at 1262.64 respectively.
The day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 506.23 crore from Thursday’s Taka 557.89 crore and the daily trade fell to 16.30 crore shares from 18.23 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 324 securities, prices of 33 securities closed higher against 274 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Prime Insurance, PTL, HR Tex, Prime Tex and Dhaka Insurance. The major losing companies were One Bank, FAS Finance, City Bank, Midas Finance and ICBEPMF1S1.
