Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

Stocks opened the week down as the major sectors closed the session with falling trends at both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock exchanges on Sunday.
The falling major sectors included bank and financial institutions. A total of 168 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session with 53.03 points down at 5,592.83. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it with 27.64 points down at 2059.70 and with 8.11 points down at 1286.77 respectively.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 724.22 crore from Thursday’s Taka 595.80 crore and the daily trade rose to 23.57 crore shares from 18.24 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 326 securities, prices of 90 securities closed higher against 196 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Central PHL, Regent Textile, Beacon Pharma, Asia Pacific and Saiham Cotton. The major losing companies were Standard Bank, SAVAREFR, Premier Leasing, Lanka Bangla Finance and IFIC.
