Stocks on both bourses open the week down

Stocks witnessed a sluggish trading on the first day of the week on Sunday as most indices on the country’s both bourses-Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-witnessed a fall.
The boarder DSEX index of DSE closed the day 23.48 points down at 6159.31. The blue-chip DS 30 also followed the same trend with 0.14 points down at 2231.05. However, the Shariah DSES closed the day with 0.40 points up at 1366.96.
Out of 333 issues traded, 58 advanced, 245 declined and 30 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
A total of 8.72 crore shares and mutual funds shared hands on the day and the turnover, the key indicator of the DSE, was Tk 359.72 crore which was 2.13 per cent lower than the previous session’s turnover of Tk 368 crore.
Nahee Alumminum was the day’s turnover leader with shares of nearly Tk 47.30 crore changing hands.
The top five gainers of the day were Lafage Surma Cement, Emerald Oil, Aman Feed, Rupali Bank and Saiham Cotton. Aramit Cement, Eastern Cables, BBS Cables, Imam Button and Monno Ceramics were the top five losers. The port city bourse also closed lower with CSE All Shares Price Index or CASPI – losing 65.01 points to close at 19,057.73.
Losers dominated the day as 173 issues closed lower, 36 closed higher and 27 remained unchanged on the CSE. The port city bourse traded one crore shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 41.34 crore in turnover.
