Stocks hit month’s low on profit booking

The broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) hit one month low at Sunday’s close on profit booking in the financial and some large-cap stocks.
The DSEX lost 22.23 points to close at 4801.34, which was the lowest in the past one month since November 30 last when the index closed at 4769.42. The blue-chip DS30 also fell 7.40 points to 1779.47 when the Shariah DSES declined marginally to 1137.90.
Engineering, food and allied, fuel and power and banks and non- banking financial sectors suffered nearly 1.0 percent loss in the market capitalization, taking the indices and the turnover to a low level.
The daily turnover declined to a two-week low at Taka 156.74 crore, which was down by 18.26 percent from the last week’s closing. The trade volume also fell by 17.02 percent to 4.35 crore shares.
Lafarge Surma Cement topped the turnover list followed by MJLBD, Squire Pharma, SA Port and DESCO.
FBFIF, 7th ICBMF, EBLNRBMF, BD Thai and Standard Ceramic were the major gainers among the day’s 56 advancing issues when 219 securities suffered losses across the board.
The major losers were Shympur Sugar, Savar Refractories, Style Craft, Meghna Petroleum and Meghna Condensed Milk.
