Stocks fell for the 5th consecutive session on Tuesday as most indices on the country’s both bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – witnessed a fall on lower activities of large-cap securities.
The major falling sectors were pharmaceuticals and chemicals, cement and engineering. A total of 172 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of DSE finished the session of the week with 20.58 points down at 5,204.36. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 4.29 points down at 1,200.43 and with 5.32 points down at 1,842.94.
The daily turnover in value at DSE declined to Taka 440.03 crore from Monday’s Taka 538.21 crore and the volume of shares decreased to 10.51 crore from 14.32 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 339 securities, prices of 79 securities closed higher against 214 losing issues.
The top five gaining companies were VFSTDL, Aziz Pipes, SAPORTL, Style Craft and Libra Infusion. The major losers were Savar EFR, PHARMAID, Premier Cement, SALAMCRST and BXSYNTH.
KPCL topped the turnover list followed by VFSTDL, SKTRIMS, UPGDCL and PHARMAID.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the day of the week with
downward trends with its major CASPI 51.50 points down at 15,797.99. At CSE,
255 issues were traded. Of those, 66 closed higher and 157 closed lower when
59.96 lakh shares worth Taka 16.95 crore changed hands.
