Economic Reporter :
Stocks eased Sunday to open week with a positive note when the daily transaction surged on voluminous buying. Over 19 crore shares changed hands at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) at the week’s opening session for Taka 567.35 crore.
The higher transaction drove the DSEX index to 4693.00, the DS30 to 1754.20 and the DSES to 1117.54.
Majority of the issues traded, however, incurred loss due to sell-pressure. Out of the 326 securities, 161 closed lower against 130 advancing issues.
Like some previous sessions, large-cap shares sunk most. Mutual funds also lost edges, with 11 funds finishing the day lower when only three saw marginal gains.
Surprisingly, 26 junk issues gained among 39 traded securities of this category, indicating that some buyers clearly bet on their luck.
Newly listed securities also performed relatively well when seven securities ended higher against three losing ones. The day’s top five gaining issues were Doreen Power, Apex Foods, Miracle Industries, KBPP Woven and ITC. The major losers included Peninsula, Fortune, Libra Infusion, ICBI Bank and FAS Finance. Doreen Power topped the turnover leaders, with ITC, MJLBD, Saif Power and MHSML following it.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened the week positive, with its major CASPI index gaining nearly 15 points to end at 14418.88.
Out of the 251 traded issues, 120 gained and 114 incurred loss when some 1.60 crore shares were traded for Taka 38.21 crore.
