Stocks continue to fall for third consecutive session

Stocks maintained a downward trend for the third consecutive session on Tuesday as all indices on the country’s both bourses-Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-witnessed a fall due to low participation of investors in trading activities.
Following the Monday’s falling trend, the boarder DSEX index of DSE settled at 5777.36, shedding 28.77 points. The blue-chip DS 30 also followed the same trend with 15.15 points down at 2164.70. The Shariah DSES closed the day with 8.35 points down at 1339.92.
Turnover rose to Taka 495.35 crore from Monday’s Taka 485.67 crore on the DSE. The daily trade volume also rose to 12.56 crore share from Monday’s 12.21 crore shares.
Out of 339 issues traded, 209 declined, 85 advanced and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The top five gainers were S Alam Cold Rolled Steels, RD Food, Central Insurance, ShaSha Denims and UCB while the top five losers were Takaful Insurannce, Savar Refractories, Sonali Ansh, Premier Leasing and Phenix Insurance.
In the port city, the CSE also maintained a downward trend with its major CASPI index lost 16.22 to close at 17821.98. Of the issues traded on the day, 78 gained, 118 declined and 40 remained unchanged.
The CSE traded 68.92 lakh shares and mutual fund units worth nearly Taka 32.02 crore in turnover.
