Stocks close week down ahead of corporate disclosure

Dhaka stocks closed week down on Thursday mainly because of cautious trading by the investors who became watchful ahead of the corporate earning declaration.
During the week ended Thursday, the benchmark index lost 132 points.
DSEX, the broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 16.04 points to finish the day at 5154.10 when the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSEX fell to 1943.67 and 1216.23 respectively.
Out of the day’s 302 issues traded, 139 declined with 118 issues advancing and 46 remaining unchanged.
The daily transactions also fell to 11.40 crore shares worth Taka 572.55 crore from Wednesday’s 16.28 crore shares of Taka 722.55 crore.
“Rapid correction of the market during the week has made the investors cautious about the market,” said Lanka Bangla Securities. It also said the market would be influenced by the corporate earning disclosure for July-September period that started to come.
Average turnover during the week was Taka 654.7 crore, down by 32 percent from previous week, which shows investors lack of confidence.
Among the sectors, top gainers of the week were life insurance with 6.43 percent, paper and printing with 6.21 percent, food and allied with 2.83 percent and mutual fund with 2.72 percent.
The top losing sectors were general insurance with 5.24 percent, IT with 4.55 percent, cement with 3.06 percent and bank with 3.04 percent.
