Stocks close the week lower

Stocks closed the week downward on Thursday as the major indices on the country’s two bourse-Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-witnessed a fall due mainly to selling pressures.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, declined to Taka 474.18 crore from the previous session’s Taka 592.76 crore on the DSE. The daily trade volume also dropped to 12.95 crore shares from the Monday’s 15.49 crore shares.
DSEX, the key index of the DSE, lost 40.54 points to settle at 5,698.69 over the previous session. The blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 15.23 points down at 2128.42 and the Shariah DSES closed the day with 6.27 points down at 1318.58.
At the DSE, out of the day’s 337 securities, prices of 154 securities closed higher against 149 losing issues while 34 remained unchanged.
The top five gainers at DSE were Advent Pharma, Monno ceramic, Queen South Textile, Standard Insurance, Takaful Insurance while the top five losers were AB Bank, Samata leather, Symanpur Sugar, Reckitt Benckiser and Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills.
At the port city, the CSE also ended the session lower with All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing 98.13 points to settle at 17,595.17.
At the CSE, 231 issues were traded. Of those, 109 closed higher and 100 closed lower while 22 remained unchanged.
A total of 92.49 lakh shares and mutual fund issues changed hands for Taka 22.56 crore.
