Dhaka stocks closed sharply lower on Monday, falling for the seventh trading session in a row.
The prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, lost 327 points in the last seven days.
On Monday, the DSEX index lost 57.55 points or 0.98 per cent to close at 5774.57, the lowest since July 9 last year.
Two other indices of the premier bourse also declined. The DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips, fell 14.95 points or 0.69 per cent to finish at 2,127 and DSES Shariah index dropped 12.66 points or 0.93 per cent to close at 1,348.68 Out of the total issues traded, 249 closed lower, 38 higher and 47 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. The day’s turnover also closed lower to Tk 300 crore, which was Tk 384 crore on Sunday.
On Sunday, the DSEX index lost 74.85 points or 1.26 per cent to close at 5823.12.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed sharply lower on Monday with CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – shedding 163.64 points to settle at 17,845 and Selective Categories Index – CSCX – falling 97.57 points to finish at 10,770 with 160 issues closed lower, 34 ended higher and 28 remained unchanged.
The total trading turnover at the CSE stood at Tk 15 crore.
