Stocks begin week in downbeat

Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) began week in downbeat from the marginal gaining of last two sessions as a result of the investors’ sales pressure for booking short time profit.
At DSE, trading started registering upbeat note, but late hours profit booking selling pressure eroded all the initial gains.
The broad index, DSEX settled at 4971.61 points on Sunday, first working day of the week, with a loss of 7.16 points or 0.14 percent.
Besides, two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 10.40 points and 4.71 points to settle at 1690.78 points and 1121.59 points respectively.
On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 205,197 trades were executed in Sunday’s trading session with a trading volume of 391.66 million securities.
Besides, DSE’s turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 10.34 billion from Taka 8.80 billion in the previous session.
Losers took lead over gainers as out of 357 issues traded, 106 securities gained price while 210 declined and 41 remained unchanged.
The market-cap of DSE increased to Taka 3,952 billion which was Taka 3,946 billion in the previous session.
The top 10 gainers were – Asia Pacific Insurance, GSP Finance, Paramount Insurance, Sandhani Life Insurance, Bay Leasing, National Housing, Eastland Insurance, Standard Insurance, United Finance and Islamic Finance. Sandhani Life Insurance topped the turnover chart followed by Sonar Bangla Insurance, Beximco Pharma, Lanka Bangla Finance, Eastland Insurance, Rupali Insurance, Beximco Limited, Express Insurance, Pioneer Insurance and Pravati Insurance.
