Stock ends week upward

 Stock closed the week Thursday upward with increasing transactions when some investors were seeking comparatively comfortable position in mostly active securities.
The indices at the country’s twin stock exchanges finished the last trading session of the week in green when market became more favourable to seller, with prices of the most of the issues going up.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished Thursday 22.46 points up at 4549.04 when the blue-chip DS30 was 9.26 points up at 1744.62 and the Shariah DSES was 5.85 points up at 1103.33. All the three indices, however, were down compared to their last week’s closing. Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) finished the week positive, with its major CASPI index closing over 65 points up at 13966.32.
Stock market started showing recovery on Wednesday, breaking the losing streak that had been continuing at the country’s premier bourse since August 17. The recovery, however, was marginal.
Insurance and banking issues led the market to recover. Fuel and Power sector also showed some sort of stability on the market on moderate demand.
The daily transactions increased at the last trading session of the week, but the weekly average trade value and volume went down. The average weekly trade value was 11.20 percent down at Taka 444.76 crore when the average trade volume was over 21.0 percent down at 11.21 crore shares.
Out of the 326 traded issues during the week, 144 gained, 148 incurred loss and 34 remained static. All the top five gaining securities were from insurance sector. These are Continental Insurance, Mercantile Insurance, City General Insurance, Islami Insurance and Prime Insurance.
The major losing issues of the week included National Tubes, Renwick Jaj, Ambee Pharma, Usmania Glass and Sonali Aansh.
