Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Information and Communication Technology [ICT] Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has urged the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League [BCL] not to defame the organization anymore by their activities.
“I want all members of BCL to study attentively to make themselves self reliant. If you carry on your studies, you need not extortions or any other illegal activities. I request you not to indulge in acts that defame the historic Chhatra League,” he said.
Joy, also son of Sheikh Hasina, made the call while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the leaders of BCL at Ganobhaban on Thursday afternoon.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and BCL General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam, among others, were present there while BCL President H M Bodiuzzaman Shohag presided over the meeting.
Issuing stern warning, Joy further said, “We’ll take legal action against them who create chaos in any educational institution as Awami League will not tolerate chaos anymore.”
“Our country is the 4th according to the speed of economical growth. There are huge opportunities in the country to be self-employed. So, you need not to be involved with heinous extortion here. Boys and girls of digital centrals earn Tk 50 to 60 thousand per month with their intellectual work. You should be industrious too,” Joy mentioned putting emphasis on increasing individual skills.
He said, “If anyone engages in terrorism on the campus, you must handover him to the police. We will not tolerate those who will create chaos on the campus. Everyone becomes an Awami Leaguer or Chhatra Leaguer when the party [AL] comes to power. These people also formulate conspiracy against us [AL] for their own interest and corruption.”
“There is a section of people who perform their duties as the agents of Pakistan. They start propaganda against the government. Don’t pay attention to their misinformation,” he noted.
Joy’s statement about the activities of BCL men came at a time when PM herself expressed severe discontent about the increasing internal clashes centering illegal activities of the party’s student wing in different parts of the country.
In the latest incident, academic activities were suspended at Chittagong University [CU] when two factions of CU shuttle train compartment-based BCL locked in clashes over maintaining supremacy in the campus.
Being angry at the internal squabbling between two factions of Chittagong University [CU] unit of BCL, the PM on Wednesday during her visit to Chittagong asked Chittagong City committee President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin to resolve it immediately.
